Lip filler is very popular, but have you heard of a lip flip, using botox? At the age of 34, (yes it has been 4 years since my 30 Awkward Things for My 30th Birthday post! I have decided to give botox a try. I have never had any type of plastic surgery procedure before, but I was interested in trying it out. A lot of my friends have had botox and they look great, so I figure why not? I was a little worried about the pain factor, but not enough to keep me from giving it a try. When you have had an epidural fail, almost anything seems pretty painless.
Lip Filler vs Lip Flip
I have been doing some research on fillers, however, I thought I’d start small with botox. I desperately need help with the wrinkles on my forehead, but as I continued to read about botox, I stumbled upon something called a lip flip. This is a procedure where the nurse or doctor injects botox into your upper lip, causing it to relax, and flip up.
No one has ever accused me of having thin lips, but I was excited to see what a lip flip would look like on me. A lip flip is a lot less invasive than lip filler. Plus, I am already really scared of needles, so the thought of getting a lip filler scares me. I’ve never had it before, but it seems like it would be incredibly painful to have something injected into my lips. Also, I think we all know at least one person that has ventured out into lip filler and now has duck lips, looking like they stuck their lips into a vacuum hose, and they stuck that way.
The nurse told me that the lip flip would be less painful, with slower, shorter lasting results, that would barely be noticeable. It was also drastically cheaper, so I decided to give it a shot.
The Procedure (Injecting Botox)
Once I got into the office a nurse injector went over the procedure with me. She said that she would be injecting botox into my upper lip which over time would cause the muscle to relax which would cause the lip to turn up. She put some numbing cream on where the injections would be and left the room for a bit so that it could take effect. Once she returned the injections were very quick, and the pain was minimal.
The Results (Botox Lip Flip)
I did not experience any pain or bruising after the procedure. I did notice after about a week that my top lip feIt different. It is difficult to explain, but in simplest terms, it did feel like I had lost some feeling in my top life, which was a strange feeling to have, I took a picture the day of my procedure (prior to the shots), and then once a week after that. I noticed results around the second week of my procedure, on the left and right sides of my upper lip. I can honestly say that without taking the pictures I never would have been able to tell if anything changed. Having said that I was really pleased with the results. I liked the way it made my lips look, and it wasn’t so drastic that other’s noticed.
